I'd give this book a 0 if I couldThis book is horrible and nobody should buy it. Anyone who buys this for their kids should be wondering if their kids read it as if they did they should be VERY confused if they did. I have a BS and MS in computer science and some PhD work, and bought it as although I some simple algebra commonly, I have forgotten much of the topics I learned 25 year ago that I don't use day to day and wanted to brush up so I could start brushing back up on calculus.When reading this book I started getting very confused as some (many) of the examples did not seem to reflect what the author was trying to write, and they made no sense and actually were WRONG.This seems to be because the typesetting is often not correct andrather than have something like 2 to the power of x they will write 2x. Unfortunately 2x is NOT 2 to the power x; it's 2 multiplied by x which is VERY VERY different than 2x. for example 5 to the power 2 (or 5^2) = 25; where as 5 times 2 (or 5 x 2) = 10.I spent more time being confused in the first 2 chapter of what the author was trying to say, and that is for concepts I ALREADY understand and remember well. I don't even know how one could possibly read this book and understand concepts that were new to them or that they were trying to learn/relearn if the text is so incorrect.even worse is the errors are inconsistent. on one line the typesetting is CORRECT, and on the next line it might be wrong making it basically impossible to follow unless you already know what is correct.I usually don't say bad things, but this book is horrible due to this reason. and I really would like to get my money back.While writing is hard and nobody is expected to be perfect, the sheer volume of errors is completely unacceptable. It as if nobody actually proofread the finished product. (I'm sure the author wrote correctly, but whoever converted it to the print product clearly was not consistent in typesetting) and that makes it really a useless book since if you read the incorrect examples as they are written it's literally saying incorrect things.)

Nice little book. That said, explains topics in a basic way, which it should do, however, no practice problems. A little short in information. And, doesn't follow the Algebra 1 workbook or Algebra 1 1001 practice problems format. If you are considering buying this book, buy the Algebra 1 workbook instead as it has much more information and practice problems with it, plus, it follows the Algebra 1 1001 Practice Problems book format exactly.

This book did not provide formulas and how to steps like I have experienced with other books. My son had to teach himself 8th grade math this summer to get in an advanced class. I have used “books for dummies” previously with great success. As I don’t use advanced math daily, I need examples. This wasn’t the full book of how to & practice questions I expected. It is useless. We survived without using it. After skimming through it once, I was immediately disappointed in my waste of money.

The rendering for the digital version does not always present exponents in superscript. So 2 to the 10th power reads as 210. This can be very confusing. If you are attempting to learn algebra, or refresh your memory of algebra, the material can already be confusing enough. Mistakes like this in a book that is trying to teach math are not acceptable. I wish I could return it and get my money back.

My son needed to brush up on his math so he got this to help. He is still working on it. It's helping to bring back alot of what he didn't know that he had forgotten.

No worksheets or problems in the book, it literally just shows you how to do problems, but there no way to test if you have actually understood it or not.

Written well and understandable, it didn't match the math I was learning.

Definitely helps make you understand the math

Bought this as a gift for a 5 year old’s birthday, and he loved it! He can’t read just yet, but his older brother read it to him, and they both spent the better part of the party enjoying the book together. It has interesting facts about various turtles, and lots of great pictures, so the 5 year old enjoys looking at it even when no one is reading it to him. Great for older ages as well. My own children have some of these Nat Geo Readers as well, and they’ve always enjoyed them. They make so many different ones, so if there’s an animal your child is just crazy about, you’re bound to find a book about it.

The best series ever for young readers. It is very hard to find books for young readers that are based on the natural world. The photos are beautiful, the storyline is full of accurate, interesting, scientific facts about the creatures, and has a vocabulary building review at the back of the book. And each book in this series has several upside down jokes that reference the animal, an added point of interest for Montessori and all children. BTW, I have gotten more than 30 of these books for my classroom. Highly recommended!

My 2 year old LOVES this entire series of Nat. Geo Readers... I have purchased about 25 different titles, "pre-readers" as well as Level 1 & 2 readers. She loves them all & will ask for certain ones. The "pre-readers" level books are extremely simple & great because she memorizes the words & can "read" it herself. We love the more advanced ones too, because there is more information to talk about. I have learned quite a few facts, myself!) What a great series. The price is reasonable & pictures are great. These are really getting her interested in nature, animals & science... I will continue to buy these as they are released, for our collection!

Bought a bunch in this series for my nephew who is eager to read and starting kindergarten this month. It's fun to read these together and talk about the topics as we go. More than once he has chimed in with a fact of his own he learned some were else. I love that these get him excited to read and learn in general.

My five year old LOVES to read and LOVES turtles! He LOVES this book! There are a lot of pictures for him to enjoy and enough for him to read.

Bought for a gift. Interesting little gift.The recipient loves turtles and enjoyed the gift.

I bought literally 30 of these for my niece who loves them. They are such a quick read beautiful pictures she cannot put them down. She has all of them I hope they make more.

First, I tossed my daily “To Do” list, and then I began scheduling my tasks on the calendar. It works so much better and it keeps me in line.My favorite quote from the book: “For each time you say yes to something, you’re saying no to everything else.” Good grief I never thought of it that way. What a game changer!The book works for anyone of any age. Pick it up find a few principles you can quickly integrate into your life and go from there. Add more as you see fit.Here are some I decided to integrate immediately, after tossing my “To Do” list for the calendar:#27 – Choose To Be Happy – I never thought of it as a choice, and I sure do now and it’s enlightening.#34 – Be Kind To Others – this should not need to be pointed out, however, when it is we take notice.#44 – Invest Early and Invest Often – fortunately my husband did this and I am grateful for that today. I also remind my children as often as I can of the importance of putting money aside for WAY later, like their golden years. The best part - the author shares links for budgeting and investing tools you can use or share with others.A good afternoon read and a great reflection book.

This book is organized in a manner that would make it a useful tool for self-improvement. Reading it cover to cover is enjoyable, but I think the reader may obtain more benefit from reading one key principle a week over an entire year. It would be difficult to successfully implement all the ideas in one week. I plan to read the book again, and be mindful of the lessons it is teaching. This way I can read one principle a week and in a year (52 weeks) I will have had the opportunity to think smarter and not harder.

Roy Huff's new book gives one a path to a way of life we all ultimately desire, but often are overwhelmed trying to reach our goals. The author has given us an excellent guide to work towards attaining fulfillment in our personal life and career. The 52 Principles in the book enable us to reach our goals, if we follow them What was of particular interest is the fact that the author does not just tell us how to succeed and be happy in what we choose to do, he has shared personal anecdotes when life was at its darkest for him. More importantly, he shared what worked for him.. The Principles. They are practical useful guides to a better way of life. Doable. Starting with Principle 1, we learn how to change our lives and thinking in order to get to that point in our life that we are the person we want to be...optimistic, good attitude, trustworthy, healthy, goal oriented. From there we are ready to move to the other Principles, which will guide us in our chosen career. Among the 52 Principles there are guides to managing money, finance, etc. Everything that one needs to succeed in life can be found in these 52 Principles. Lastly, and also important,we are told to "Take time to smell the Roses."

This is a good book for anyone seeking to improve their goals: personal, work or entrepreneurial. While the information is not necessarily new, it is presented clearly and the author uses his own personal experience to demonstrate the principles in action. He also lists all his sources by chapter so if a particular principle is interesting, the reader can look into it further. He also suggests that principles can be read according to one's interest, but I appreciated how they build one upon the others. You might find some areas of less interest, but I liked the author's suggestion to focus on ones that might need improving. Much of the book was validating and some of it felt uncomfortable, but I think those feelings are good clues to what is working and what I could work on more. Take time to read and process. It's clear and easy to read, but you'll want take your time to consider and apply the principles to your own life, work and goals.

My wife is a cardio-thoracic ICU nurse. But she has served across the board, and from PACU to NICU to the ER, she has seen it all, and Christie Watson has shed light on much of it, from showing the line of possible career realities that led her to her calling to providing one with a fine set of scenes that tell the story of one man's struggle with mental illness, to the glories Ms. Watson has known in midwifery. Fine, fine work. Godspeed. Read it if you have never contemplated the field. This, especially, is the sort of reading in which I learn something - while being gripped by the story told.

Ms. Watson shares her own feelings along with detailed descriptions of events and drew me into her story with clear explanations and her knowledge of procedures and disease processes. I wish she had included the anxiety nurses experience over the way in which they can be unexpectedly “pulled” from one department to another as the hospital census demands. Each department has a unique layout and, although the basics of nursing are the same, there are different aspects to look for and chart in different types of nursing. The prospect of this happening caused me great anxiety and made it difficult to plan my work during my thirty years as a nurse in Tennessee hospitals. Both Ms. Watson and I enjoyed our nursing careers and felt that we received more from our patients than we were able to give to them.Margaret S. This book depicts the very human side of nursing and the toll it takes on those in the profession. It is about nursing in Britain rather than the U.S. but nursing is a universal profession so that does not detract from the book, however, it does depict a very different health care system than in the United States. If you love medical memoir, you will love it.

As a nurse myself, I felt instantly comfortable with the scenarios and descriptions provided. This book was a great reminder that what we do matters on many different levels, and sometimes the greatest kindnesses are received from the most unlikely places. In the end, we all need kindness.

This account of a nurse's life in the UK was is disappointment. It lacked the drama of a true memoir and was filled with medical detail that was not narratively needed. It needed a good editor!

Very much enjoyed the view of nursing in the British national health system. She demonstrates good nursing care and the challenges in achieving it. Also shows the variety of nursing jobs available as a nurse--either in the UK or the US.
