The Darkest Hour"The Darkest Hour" is a World War II book written by 10 talented authors. Each author has contributed an interesting and well written novella. This book has been so wonderfully promoted starting with a great cover. The video presentation is excellent. The release party was wonderful. Thanks to all the authors for their writings. From the book "The Darkest Hour," I am reviewing "Reluctant Informer" by Marion Kummerow. Marion has come up with a very interesting story line for this novella. Some people who belonged to the Nazi Party would help both the SS and the Gestapo. They would also recruit other people who were not in the Nazi party to join. If they were not able to get the person to join or cooperate with what they wanted them to do, than the SS or Gestapo would step in and sometimes threaten that person or family members or even kill some of the people. If we were subjected to this, what would we do and how far would we be willing to go to save our family members?Marion's books are always page turners. She does in depth research and even travels to many of the placesof the setting of her books. Both her War Girls Series and her Resistance in WWII Series are excellent reads.I look forward to reading more books written by Marion in the future. All proceeds from "The Darkest Hour" will be donated to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum In Washington DC.

The Darkest Hour by Roberta Kagan and Jean Grainger is an anthology of fiction stories of the fate of the inhabitants of various towns during the Holocaust. Most of the stories are purely fiction, although some are based on truth. One of the stories, The Occupation, is very definitely is based on a true story. In fact, they give you a link to a different website which has the true story of the women who are in the story. The purpose of the book is to show that the trend in Holocaust fiction is “to arouse curiosity, action, and prevention of something like this happening again” (p2). Some of the stories are based on family history and some are just pure fiction. All of them are intended to “evoke an emotional response--- to actively remember” (p2). These stories definitely evoke an emotional response, some more than others. The ten different stories in the book are written by ten different women. Each one is unique in its own way. Each one has a lesson for you to remember apart from those created by the author. All ten stories take place in different locations and /or has main characters that come from different backgrounds. The stories come from Poland, France, Czechoslovakia, Shanghai, and even Germany. The main characters are of all ages and sexes. This makes the book keep its suspenseful air throughout the book. The variety of the stories keeps the reader engaged in the book all the way through. Although it is fiction, it is sometimes very hard to get through different parts.Being a member of several Holocaust social media pages, I have recommended this book as an alternate to other fiction in the classroom. I feel it would enhance the students’ reading of the Holocaust when used in conjunction with memoirs and will be a viable substitute if students should prefer reading fiction of the Holocaust. I would like to thank all the writers for giving of their time and talent for their contribution and I would especially like to thank Jean Grainger for bringing this book to my attention.

Killing the Hangman by Ellie Midwood is full of intrigue and despair that the story of the assassination of the infamous Reinhard Heydrich has to offer. Superbly researched, engrossing, highly suspenseful, it kept me captivated through the whole story, opening up new insights on a man and a topic I thought I already knew.I heartily recommend it to the WWII buffs and the general reader interested in the period.

I’m not finished yet but I’m loving this WWII anthology! I especially loved Roberta Kagen’s, Jean Grainger’s and Alexa Kang’s wonderful stories! I definitely want to read more of their works.

The past few months I have been reading both books and novels which took place during WW II. A few had to do with the Warsaw Ghetto and Treblinka. And, several more had to do with the Resistance in France and the spies that were risking their lives. This anthology is a collection of 10 authors with their novellas. What, I feel sets this anthology apart from others is the variety of locations in which the 'action' takes place. They include Paris, Poland, Czechoslovakia, Germany, Greece, Shanghai, Germany, and The Channel Islands. I did not read the last one 'Sound of Resistance' as the author had written a disclaimer which I heeded. (And thanks for that heads-up)!The other nine were all excellent novellas and contained action, bravery, decisions and pure deception...in some cases. For some reason, I was drawn more into the two novellas that included the younger children....'V for Victory' and 'Enemy at the Gate'...As was mentioned in the Prologue, we must 'remember the horrors of the Nazi regime' and 'never again'. I am older now and remember as a child that my Mom and Dad had a large red book published by Life. Within those pages, was my first experience with WW II. I still remember (more than 65 years later), the photograph of a prisoner at Auschwitz in his striped pajamas. And, it was taken the day he was finally freed...All skin and bones and a vision that I will never forget...Truly an emotional and evocative anthology and well done to each of the 9 authors that I read...Most highly recommended...

I liked some stories way more than others, but overall this was a good book & had many interesting stories & viewpoints.

Several of the Authors I had read a enjoyed their works. A couple were new! I plan to read more by the New Authors. The stories were all very exciting and thought provoking. I will recommend this book!
